CURRENT MODEL / v1.012 CORE BELIEFS / OPEN TO REVISION

What I currently believe.

This is a snapshot of how I currently understand reality, morality, society, and my own direction. It is here so future versions of me can see what changed, and so other people can challenge the parts they think I have wrong.

Some of these are strong beliefs. Some are only my current best guesses. I expect them to change when I find better reasons.

PERSONAL OUTLOOK

My current view of existence feels satisfying, tragic, beautiful, temporary, and hundreds of other things at once.

I’m a temporary conscious system embedded in a causal process I mostly don’t understand. My actions are caused, but they still become causes. I can understand some of what is happening, experience the small part available to me, and affect what comes after me.

I want the part of this process passing through me to move toward more truth, more agency, more integration, and more cooperation.

I still desperately want to see where this goes, but I no longer think reality has failed me if I don’t get to.

Reality

I think reality probably has no first cause. I don’t know.

WHAT I THINK

I think reality is most likely an infinite causal regress.

I don’t see why there necessarily had to be a first event. Ending the chain with God does not really solve the problem to me. It just moves the unexplained part to God.

Our universe and the Big Bang may only be one local stage inside a much larger process, but I don’t know enough to say exactly what that larger process would be.

I think the religions humans have created are almost certainly not literal descriptions of ultimate reality. Their texts conflict, many of their beliefs require contradictions or special explanations to hold together, and the amount of apologetic work needed to keep them coherent makes them look much more like inherited human systems than reliable access to whatever reality fundamentally is.

That does not mean I think every possible godlike existence has been ruled out. Reality could come from something beyond our universe, beyond the type of causality we understand, or from something humans are simply incapable of knowing.

Infinite regress is my current best guess. I am not attached to it. If better evidence points somewhere else, then I was wrong.

WHAT THIS CHANGES

This mainly changes how I relate to uncertainty and how I see my own existence.

I don’t need to force a final answer just because not knowing is uncomfortable. An unanswered question is not evidence for whichever answer I already prefer.

I also don’t think I am a separate substance placed inside reality. I am one local form that the larger reality temporarily takes. Everything else is another local form of that same underlying reality.

UNRESOLVED

I don’t know whether causality itself still makes sense at the deepest level of reality, whether anything exists outside the structure we understand, or whether humans are capable of knowing the answer at all.

METHOD

I came to these beliefs through my own experiences and thinking. I use AI to ask me questions, find contradictions, and organize my answers. It does not decide what I believe.
